So it\u2019s time to send your kids off to college.\u00a0 With the economy being the way it is, we must always remember to save. But how do you save while attending college?\u00a0 I\u2019ll share some of my strategies with you and hopefully you will find them helpful.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Get a paid summer internship.\u00a0 This was my lifeline when I was in college.\u00a0 I was very fortunate to get into the INROADS internship program (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.inroads.org\/\">www.inroads.org<\/a>).\u00a0 This program gave me the opportunity to obtain experience in my field of study, accounting, and also make some money during the summer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Once you have made your money during the summer, don\u2019t forget to save your money.\u00a0 One of the savings accounts that I always loved is the Electric Orange from ING direct (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ingdirect.com\/\">www.ingdirect.com<\/a>). This account has awesome interest rates.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use your student discounts.\u00a0 Several merchants offer great discounts to students simply by showing your school id.\u00a0 Check with your school\u2019s campus activities office for a listing of merchants that offer student discounts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Participate in campus entertainment events. These are usually free or offered at a discounted student rate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Buy used textbooks and sell your textbooks to the bookstore after your term is over.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Educate yourself about personal finances.\u00a0 I love bankrate.com. It\u2019s never too early to learn about personal finances.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Although this list is not all inclusive, it is a great start for smart savings while in college.
